Kollam ∙ The route map initially released by Kollam DMO office in the name of monkeypox patient was wrong. The explanation was that the patient was admitted to Paripally Medical College. But the patient is undergoing treatment at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital.

The country’s first case of monkeypox was confirmed in Kerala yesterday. The patient (35) is a resident of Kollam district who came from Abu Dhabi on the 9th of this month. The doctors informed that his health condition in the isolation ward of Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College is satisfactory.

But two people who came in close contact with the patient are yet to be found. He first came to a private hospital in Kollam. It was also informed earlier that he was sent to Paripally Hospital and admitted there after suspecting monkeypox. However, the authorities are now saying that the patient has not reached Paripalli.

When asked why the ambulance was not released even though the patient raised the suspicion of monkeypox, DMO Bindu Mohan and others informed that he did not seek treatment at Paripally. The drivers of the auto-rickshaw that first brought the patient to the hospital and the taxi that later went to Thiruvananthapuram have not been found. The authorities also alleged that the private hospital did not inform.

A young man who came into contact with a person who tested positive for monkeypox in Abu Dhabi returned home with mild symptoms. The parents are also under observation at the hospital. They have no symptoms. At the same time, the health department has informed that special vigilance is required in five districts in case of monkeypox disease. Vigilance has been issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha and Kottayam districts.
