Monkeypox: WHO declares international health emergency

ROME (ITALPRESS) – The World Health Organization has declared the Mpox virus (monkeypox) international health emergency. The decision was taken by the WHO Emergency Committeeas announced by Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

WHO, Ghebreyesus explained, has prepared a intervention plan regional for which 15 million dollars have been allocated. Smallpox cases have spread to many African countries, particularly the Democratic Republic of Congo and neighbouring Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda. This year, 1,000 cases have already been reported over 14,000 caseswith 524 deaths.
