Monroeville Police Officer Shot Multiple Times, Suspect in Custody

A Monroeville police officer is recovering after being shot multiple times by a suspect wanted in connection with an armed robbery at a Crumbl Cookies store. The armed robbery took place just after 9 p.m. at the Miracle Mile shopping center location. No one was injured during the robbery.

A short time later, a Monroeville Police supervisor spotted a man matching the description of the armed robbery suspect near the intersection of Monroeville Boulevard and Stonecliffe Drive. When the officer approached the suspect, the suspect fired at the police cruiser, hitting the officer multiple times. The officer was taken to Forbes Hospital and is listed in stable condition and alert.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident at the Stonecliffe Apartments, and two handguns were recovered from him following his arrest. The suspect’s identity has not been released, and it is unclear what specific charges he will be facing.

This is the second time in recent months that a Monroeville Police officer has been shot. In November, an officer was shot in the arm and the leg in Allegheny Township following a chase that began in Pitcairn and took numerous law enforcement officers through Murrysville into Westmoreland County. The officer who was severely wounded in November has not yet returned to work.

Allegheny County Police are investigating the shooting in Monroeville. Monroeville Police Chief Doug Cole expressed relief that the recent incidents did not end in more severe outcomes. Both incidents are still under investigation.
