Five-star wide receiver Monshun Sales has committed to Indiana, becoming the program’s highest-ranked recruit ever and ending a high-stakes battle with Alabama, Texas, and other powerhouses.
A Historic Commitment
His decision came after a 2025 high school season where he caught 37 passes for 794 yards and nine touchdowns. The Hoosiers, who finished 16-0 in 2025, have already seen multiple receivers drafted in the 2026 NFL draft, including Omar Cooper Jr. and Elijah Sarratt.

Indiana was my second offer and since then they’ve just been pouring into me,
Sales said during his announcement on the Pat McAfee Show, highlighting the program’s relentless recruitment. I go up there a lot and I talk with coach Shanny, coach Eddie and coach Cig. Them my guys, probably the best relationships I have with coaches. It just felt like home since day one and I’m just ready to work.
The Decision-Making Process
Sales’ decision was not without drama. Alabama, his home state, was a top contender, but the Hoosiers’ recent success and relationships with staff ultimately swayed him. It really felt unreal,
Sales told 247Sports, reflecting on his visit to Tuscaloosa. I grew up in Alabama. I grew up thinking about that all the time and it was finally there. It was a ‘I am here’ moment. I feel like Bama and Indiana are my top two schools right now.
Despite Alabama’s efforts, including a push from head coach Kalen DeBoer and general manager Courtney Morgan, the Tide struggled to match Indiana’s appeal. If this ended up being an NIL battle, that his decision likely would not wind up being Alabama,
said BamaOnLine’s Tim Watts.
Coaching Relationships and Program Growth
Sales emphasized the importance of his relationships with Indiana’s coaching staff, particularly head coach Curt Cignetti, offensive coordinator Mike Shanahan and assistant wide receivers coach Eddie Burk Jr. They approach everything the same way. They don’t approach nothing easy. They try to go get everything, and it starts with the head coach and the receiver coaches and all the coaches that’s in the organization,
he said.
Coach Pat Mallory of Lawrence North High School, where Sales starred, praised the prospect’s decision. I just tried to tell him to talk to the people that love you the most,
Mallory said. Everybody has their opinion about you and where you should go. But nobody’s opinion matters but yours first and foremost.
Implications for Indiana’s Recruiting
Sales’ commitment has already reshaped Indiana’s 2027 class, which now ranks No. 28 in the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. The Hoosiers have also secured other top prospects like Noblesville four-star offensive tackle Mason McDermott. His decision underscores the program’s ability to attract elite talent, even in a competitive landscape.
What’s Next for Sales and the Hoosiers
Sales’ arrival is expected to elevate Indiana’s already strong offense, which has proven it can compete with top programs. I feel like that’s all they really needed, was to start winning so they can get even better recruits,
he said, reflecting on the program’s transformation. Imagine what they could do with those top recruited guys?
For Indiana, the commitment is a testament to Cignetti’s vision and the program’s rapid ascent. With Sales in the fold, the Hoosiers are poised to continue their rise, challenging traditional powerhouses and redefining expectations in the Big Ten. As one source noted, It’s really just how they approach everything,
a philosophy that has now attracted the nation’s top talent.
