Julien Cabannes will end his career at 33, after having worn the colors of the club for 27 years. Bruno Perrel

The Landes club was sanctioned by the League for having allowed a guard of honor to take place, at the hour of play, during the last match of the child of the club.

An ubiquitous sanction that makes a lot of talk. The Mont-de-Marsan club was indeed sentenced by the National Rugby League to a fine of 10,000 euros for having authorized a guard of honor to be made, in the 60th minute of the match against Rouen, for Julien Cabannes , icon of the Landes club which played its last game at home, on May 5, on the occasion of the 30th and last day of the regular phase of the Pro D2.

The Disciplinary Committee of the LNR justified itself laconically: “The Stade montois was found responsible for “non-compliance with the regulations in terms of entertainment and / or the kick-off schedule.” Reminder of the facts: while the Montois, already qualified for the final stages, receive the Rouennais, assured of being maintained, the match is interrupted at the hour of play, when Julien Cabannes is replaced.

In the middle of the Stade Guy and André Boniface lawn, the two teams then form a guard of honor to celebrate the last home match of the emblematic Landes winger (33 years old), at the club for… 27 years! His two daughters even joined him in midfield. Interrupted for a few minutes when the score was 28-17, the match resumed its normal course and ended in a Mons success 47 to 17.

“Against everything we try to convey”

On the side of the Stade Montois, we castigate this ridiculous sanction and totally far from the values of rugby. In the columns of The Team club manager Patrick Milhet did not hide his anger: “This decision has nothing to do with the world of rugby, it is smearing our sport. It goes against all the decisions that we have instilled in our players since rugby school. I don’t understand. This decision goes against everything we are trying to convey. I wish there was common sense.”
