The Montenegrin authorities have decided to close the airspace for Russian aircraft, TASS writes with reference to the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic on the national television of the country.

Montenegro has become one of the European countries that banned flights to Russian aircraft due to the start of a special military operation in Ukraine. On February 27, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced a ban on flights by Russian airlines in all EU airspace. Other countries, including the United States, also announced that they were closing their skies to Russian aircraft.

In response, Russia banned aircraft from 37 countries from flying over its territory: 28 EU member states, as well as Albania, Anguilla, Britain, the British Virgin Islands, Gibraltar, Jersey, Canada, Norway and Switzerland.

Today, the Russian airline S7 Airlines announced the cancellation of all international flights. In addition, the planes of Russian airlines began to be arrested due to the termination of contracts with leasing companies that provide aircraft for rent, as they were under sanctions.
