Montpellier hires Bristol’s English second line, Elliott Stooke

by time news

Bristol’s English international second line, Elliott Stooke, has signed up with Montpellier until the end of the season, the Hérault club confirmed on Wednesday. Stooke, 29, joins the French champions as an additional player to replace neo-international Florian Verhaeghe, who has a shoulder injury and has been out for four months.

Stooke had rebounded during the autumn in Bristol after his dismissal from Wasps, placed in receivership on October 17 and excluded from the Premiership. Before signing this summer in Coventry, this solid and experienced second line (1.98 m, 114 kg) played in Gloucester (2012-15), London Irish (2015-16) or Bath (2016-21).

“Jumping and dynamic profile”

Elliott Stooke “has a jumping and dynamic profile. He will bring all his freshness and his knowledge of the touch”, specifies the MHR. In addition, the young Samuel Maximin (21 years old), trained at the MHR and already aligned five times in the league (2020-2021), returns from a loan to Rouen (Pro D2).

These two elements reinforce the Montpellier line-up, handicapped in the absence of Verhaeghe, but also of the South African international Janse Van Rensburg. Before the reception of Racing 92 at the end of the 15th day on Sunday, Montpellier occupies 7th place in the Top 14 and remains in the race for a qualification in the round of 16 of the Champions Cup.
