The opening ceremony of the first monument to Gagarin in Portugal was held in the Taguspark technopark in the city of Oeiras, Lisbon district, the Russian Embassy reported.
During the ceremony, Russian Ambassador Mikhail Kamynin said that this event is another step in the development of relations between Russia and Portugal.
The diplomat also pointed to the active development of space tourism at the present time, in particular, noting that the first ever feature film was shot on the ISS. At the same time, according to him, people will always remember both the first person in space – Gagarin – and the first person who made a round-the-world trip – Fernand Magellan.
“And the opening of the monument to Yuri Gagarin here, on the land of great seafarers, is a step in the right direction, towards friendship and cooperation,” Kamynin said.
