(COMMUNICATION) ORVIETO – “Publishing decontextualized photos of the state of the monumental cemetery of Orvieto certainly does not serve to ask for greater respect for our loved ones who are no longer with us but only to spread misinformation and foment anger among citizens on sensitive issues. But unfortunately this is now the figure of the new course of the opposition that thinks it is still in an election campaign“.
The Councilor for Public Works, Pier Giorgio Pizzothus replies to the Democratic Party council group on the conditions of the monumental cemetery of Orvieto.
“In two photos released by the Pd city councilors – explains – you can see some areas of the cemetery cordoned off, near the storage area, which are used as a pretext to talk about neglect and abandonment. The areas have been closed off because there have been incidents two separate incidents in which, in the first, a car hit a low wall of the path near the tombs and, in the other, a car during a maneuver damaged the wall of a staircase. In one case, the person responsible has been identified and we are waiting for the insurance appraisal. In the other, in which the person responsible has not yet been identified, we will proceed with the restoration starting next week. There is also another cordoned off area inside the cemetery – the councilor continues – where last April the collapse of a plant of cedar that damaged the tombs below. Here too we have activated the insurance to be able to compensate the owners and we are waiting for the expert’s report to quantify the damage and proceed with the restoration that will be up to the private individuals once the compensation itself has been paid. white bags immortalised in another photo, in an area outside the cemetery not open to the public, are none other than the processing waste internal deposited in the storage area from where they are periodically transferred to the landfill for disposal. The maintenance of the greenery inside the cemetery has actually had some delays due to the intense activity of burials and the planning of interventions that have affected the local cemeteries of Prodo and Capretta in recent days. However, grass cutting operations in the monumental cemetery will resume this week“.
“I can reassure the Pd councilors – concludes the councilor – that the attention of this administration is high both on the city and in the places where we honor our loved ones. This is also demonstrated by the decision to have cemetery services reinternalized about a year and a half ago of the 13 municipal cemeteries with significantly better results than in the past. The offices are also working on the creation of a controlled car access system with an internal barrier and remote opening devices to be granted to authorized persons with priority for people with motor disabilities”.
