Former president of Telefónica César Alierta (Zaragoza, 1945-2024) died this Wednesday at the age of 78 at the Quirón clinic in Zaragoza after the worsening of his illness. Alierta became president of Telefónica in 2000, at the initiative of the Spanish government of José María Aznar, replacing Juan Villalonga in the position.

He also chaired the Remuneration Committee and was a member of the Appointments Committee of the Board of Directors of International Consolidate Airlines Group (IAG), the company resulting from the merger between Iberia and British Airways.
