More and more young people with scabies: ‘When it prevails, it is difficult to get rid of’

More and more people have scabies. The number of patients – especially young people – who come to the GP with scabies has risen above thirty per 100,000 inhabitants for the first time in almost two years. This is evident from the latest figures from research institute Nivel. Scabies is caused by scabies mites that dig holes in the skin to lay eggs. It itches enormously and is also very contagious, says dermatologist Anne Berthe Halk.
