Municipalities cannot simply impose parking zones or sections for slower driving. In the future, there will be more flexibility in the requirements.

In future, it will be easier to set up bus lanes, bicycle paths and 30 km/h zones locally. The Federal Council approved a federal government regulation with some changes that gives cities and municipalities more leeway in this regard. Residents’ parking zones should also not be able to be created only as a reaction to significant “parking pressure” in a district. To protect against rear-end collisions, it will be forbidden for trucks to switch off emergency braking assistants at speeds of more than 30 kilometers per hour.

The amendment to the Road Traffic Act presented by the Federal Ministry of Transport may now be delayed by several months. The Federal Council had previously blocked an underlying law and sent it to the joint mediation committee with Parliament.
