New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stressed at the BIMSTEC conference that “in the current international context, our regional security must be a top priority”.

The Bay of Bengal countries of India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Nepal and Bhutan have formed the BIMSTEC for Multidisciplinary Technology and Economic Cooperation. The fifth conference of the ‘Pimtech’ organization was held in Sri Lanka yesterday.

In this, Prime Minister Modi participated through a ‘video conference’ and delivered the inaugural address. Then, he said: There are Pimtech member states that have to face the impact of international challenges. From the impact of the corona spread, our people and economy have not yet recovered.

Hasty action

In this context, the situation in Europe over the past few weeks has called into question the stability of international law. In such an environment, the regional cooperation of the BIMSTEC countries has become very important. It is time to bridge the Bay of Bengal to ensure connectivity, resources and security between the member states. For our regional security, it is necessary to place more emphasis.

The Charter for the Sovereignty, Rights and Free Trade of the Member States was adopted at this Conference. The results of this conference will be engraved with golden letters in the history of Pimtech. To make tax-free trade between member states, action must be taken quickly. Increase mutual cooperation between entrepreneurs and ‘start-up’ professionals.

In order to work collaboratively on disaster management, the Pimtech countries need a seasonal center. India is ready to provide Rs 2,250 crore to restart the ‘Master’ project. With the assistance of the Asian Development Bank, I urge you to expedite the implementation of the ‘Master’ project developed for the Transport Linkage of the Member States. Thus, he spoke.

Cooperative Charter Resolution

At the BIMSTEC Conference, the Cooperative Charter was adopted, which included action plans to protect the sovereignty and rights of member states. Through this very important resolution, the BIMSTEC organization will gain international recognition. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that Rs 7.60 crore will be provided for the work of the BIMSTEC headquarters.
