Fifty-one Salvadorans, beneficiaries of the Labor Mobility Program, are preparing to travel to Pennsylvania, United States, where they will work in a textile manufacturing company temporarily.

The above is the result of this initiative promoted by the Government of El Salvador through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in coordination with the United States Agency for Development (USAID).

This group of workers will carry out work for a period of approximately nine months. During the day of preparation for the departure of these workers from our territory, the Vice Minister of Diaspora and Human Mobility, Cindy Mariella Portal, highlighted the role that the compatriots will play in the American city.

“The Government aims to facilitate employability opportunities for the Salvadoran population; and provide circular migration options, which allow compatriots to move to other territories in a regular, safe and orderly manner, and return to El Salvador in the same way,” said Vice Minister Portal.

“For us it is very relevant that you represent us as a country abroad, so you must also think that now that you will be stationed outside the borders you are also partly ambassadors of the country,” said the diplomat.

The beneficiary of this program, Keyli Gómez, highlighted the development opportunity that the Government of El Salvador is providing to families. “This project contributes to the realization of dreams of many Salvadorans, my greatest goal is to build my house and generate income for my family,” she commented.

As part of the process they must follow, the beneficiaries participated in an informative talk where they were given relevant details about their stay and work commitments.

The requirements to apply are: be over 18 years old; have the complete COVID-19 vaccination schedule; not have criminal, police or irregular migration records to the United States, as well as not have family members who have failed to comply with the program’s rules.
