Nationally, the number of scab infections doubled compared to last year. The GGD has been seeing an increase since 2013, but it has never been this large. While it used to be mainly students and young adults who were affected, it now appears that not a single layer of the population or age group is spared. Not in Limburg either: “We also see scabies ‘normally’ in families in a household and in other places where people have physical contact with each other,” said a spokesman for GGD South Limburg.
