More than 1 million people have been vaccinated against the coronavirus in Germany for the fourth day in a row. This was announced on Saturday, December 11, by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). According to him, 1.055 million doses of the vaccine were administered the day before. At the same time, 915 thousand people received the so-called booster vaccination.

In total, 18.7 million people have undergone revaccination in Germany, which corresponds to about 22.5 percent of the country’s population.

Almost 70 percent of the population received basic protection

According to the RKI, at least 57.8 million people, or 69.5 percent of the population, have received full basic protection with two vaccinations, which is considered essential protection against coronavirus. At least 60.3 million people (72.5 percent) received at least one vaccine.

On the other hand, to date, 22.8 million people are not vaccinated against coronavirus, which corresponds to 27.5 percent of the population. Of these, the RKI specifies, 4 million are children under the age of 4.

Coronavirus spread continues to decline

In Germany, meanwhile, the decline in the average infection rate for SARS-CoV-2 continues, which began at the end of November. On December 11, the seven-day coronavirus infection rate, according to the RKI, averaged 402.9 cases per 100 thousand population in Germany.

A day earlier, the figure was 413.7, a week ago – 442.7 cases, a month earlier 249.1. This ratio reached its peak value on November 29, amounting to 452.4 cases.

German health authorities registered 53 697 new cases of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus in one day (6 477 217 – since the beginning of the pandemic). Exactly one week ago, 64,510 cases of infection were registered. It should be borne in mind that on weekends this figure is usually slightly lower, since not all local health authorities transmit their data to the RKI.

Hospital workload has decreased slightly

There was also a slight decrease in the hospitalization rate. As of December 10, the number of patients with confirmed coronavirus infection admitted to hospitals within seven days was 5.71 per 100,000 inhabitants. A day earlier, this figure was 5.75.

In total, 105,506 patients have died from the lung disease COVID-19 and its consequences in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic. In the last 24 hours, the RKI received information about 510 deaths.
