The Tuxtla Gutiérrez City Council, through the Municipal Civil Protection Secretariat, reports the balance in the fight against the fire that occurs in Cerro Mactumatza.

Since Tuesday, April 18, there have been different fires in different areas of the hill, with a balance of 2 fires put out, a third fire that is already under control, which is expected to be extinguished today, and a fourth fire that is being fought.

The fires that appeared on the north side have already been put out and one is under control. Today, Saturday, the fight on the south side is taking place near the antennas.

The fires have been fought as follows:

The 1st fire started last week, on Tuesday, April 18, on the eastern side of the hill and it took 5 days to settle the incident.

This week 3 more fires started at different points on the west side.

The second fire started on Wednesday, April 26, and was extinguished on Thursday, April 28.

The 3rd fire started on Wednesday the 26th and is already under control, although some trees are still being consumed, so some columns of smoke will still be visible.

The 4th fire that is active is in the south west area of the hill, on the side of the plateau and is the one that is currently being fought.

The combat tasks carried out today are being attended by the following personnel:

65 people from Municipal Civil Protection
14 people from State Civil Protection
20 people from the Ministry of Environment and Natural History
40 people provided by the Copoya Ejidal Commissariat.

A total of 139 people are collaborating from different fronts to put out the fires, which have broken out in areas that are difficult to access, which has complicated the work and increases the risk for the combatants, since the territory is very steep.

Small gaps, garbage, signs of bonfires and other evidence of human activity that could have started the fires have been found in the area.

A call is made to the public once again to avoid this type of activity in this area and also not to carry out burning of any kind in the vicinity of this Area Subject to Ecological Conservation, these activities are subject to sanctions and fines, including the arrest.
