In Ottawa, Canada, more than 100 people were detained while dispersing protests of truckers dissatisfied with the restrictions imposed due to COVID-19, Globalnews reports. Demonstrators block traffic on the streets and build snow barricades. City Police informedthat during the dispersal of the protesters “no one was seriously injured or killed”, noting that “safety is a priority.”
Uncoordinated actions began in February, they are carried out by the Freedom Convoy movement (which unites North American and European truckers). Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau plans to introduce a state of emergency in the country. Mr. Trudeau claims that the protesters are being funded by the United States and several other countries. The Canadian authorities began to freeze the bank accounts of the demonstrators.
