The French government announced this Sunday that anti-Semitic acts have “skyrocketed” in the country since October 7, when the war between Hamas and Israel began, and reported 1,040 acts and 486 detainees.

“The number of anti-Semitic acts skyrocketed,” declared the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, interviewed on the evening news program of the France 2 network. Among the 486 detainees, “102” are foreigners, he added.

When asked about the discourse of some politicians on the conflict, Darmanin responded: “Rebellious France, the extreme left of (Jean-Luc) Mélenchon, has not helped us achieve national harmony.”

The head of the Paris police, Laurent Nuñez, indicated this Sunday that there were 257 anti-Semitic acts and 90 arrests in the region.

“We see all kinds of profiles, young people, who say very serious things” and also “people closest to the defense of the pro-Palestinian cause who go out of line,” he said.
