TEL AVIV, Sept. 23. (DPA/EP) –

More than 100,000 protesters took to the streets of Tel Aviv this Saturday in what is now the 38th consecutive week of protests against the judicial reform of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government.

This week the protagonist of the demonstration has been a huge banner with a photograph of Netanyahu and the phrase “Dictator on the run”, in reference to the president’s trip to the United States, where there have also been protests against judicial reform.

The first law of judicial reform, which strips the Supreme Court of its jurisdiction to overthrow “inappropriate” decisions of the Government, was approved at the end of July despite the opposition on the street, which denounces a breach of the principle of division of powers. The Supreme Court is studying eight appeals against the reform.

Netanyahu gave an interview to CNN on Friday in which he again responded evasively to the question of whether he would respect a Supreme Court decision against the reform.

“I think we should comply with the decisions of the Supreme Court as long as they comply with the laws passed by the Knesset,” or the Israeli Parliament, he argued.
