The Senate of the Republic is in a state of paralysis, as denounced by Efraín Cepeda, president of the Senate, during the plenary session.

Cepeda made public his concern by pointing out that the Ministry of Finance has not transferred the necessary resources for the functioning of the Senate in the second half of the year, and in addition, funds from the first half are still owed.

The seriousness of the situation lies in the fact that, according to Cepeda, The lack of resources has prevented the hiring of the necessary personnel for the normal development of legislative activities. This has caused significant stagnation, affecting more than 130 bills that remain halted due to the impossibility of moving forward in their process.

«I ask the Ministry of Finance to treat us with the respect that an independent branch of public power deserves, not as an entity of the Government. Today, a crucial part of the legislative power is stopped due to lack of resources.“Cepeda said, visibly worried.

In his speech, Cepeda explained that after a formal request to the Ministry of Finance to obtain a balance pending 11 billion pesos, only 9 billion were transferred to themThis inadequacy has left the Congress channel, the Senate news program, and, most alarmingly, the publication of the bills that the senators submit, in a critical situation.

The President of Congress closed his speech with a call for attention, urging that this situation be resolved promptly to prevent the Senate from continuing in a state of inactivity, which compromises the progress of the country’s legislative agenda.

“They gave us 9 billion, exposing the Congress channel, the Senate news program and, what is worse, the publication of the bills that you filed,” said Cepeda.
