News from Angola – More than 1,500 families from the communities of Mazozo and Cabala, in the municipality of Icolo and Bengo, and from the Calumbo market, in Viana, province of Luanda, will benefit from January next year, easy access to water, as well as health security in the communities of Luanda, through the OMAZA project.

The project presented on Tuesday (12) in Luanda, has an investment of around 83 million kwanzas, financed by the Coca-Cola System in Angola through its “Water for Africa” initiative and Refriango, will be implemented by the Associação Instituto Piaget of Angola (AIPA).

It also aims to educate communities on the conscious consumption of water, the use of this resource for their development and strengthening resilience to climate change with more than 26 million liters per year.

On the occasion, the project coordinator, Ana Pérez, said that in addition to the installation of fountains, community education will be carried out on water purification using the SODIS method (acronym in English for Solar Water Purification), which allows the elimination of pathogens through exposure to sunlight of untreated water, stored in transparent bottles.

According to Refriango’s marketing administrator, Tânia Jardim, the Omaza Project arises in the context that the world is going through with climate change, intervening in communities where there is an urgent need to facilitate access to clean water and provide populations with effective management formulas. of this resource.

“These actions improve public health, increase the level of nutrition, reinforce sustainable agricultural practices and reduce regional asymmetries in terms of the availability of services and basic living conditions”, he explained.

Coca-Cola Angola’s marketing director, Paula Lima, valued the commitment to AIPA and considered its efforts to develop local capacity to be aligned with the company’s community water partnership strategies.

On March 22nd of this year, on World Water Day, Coca-Cola, Refriango and partners rehabilitated a water pump in the municipality of Bocoio, in the province of Benguela, an initiative that directly benefits three thousand inhabitants of the community of Embandi, the 40 km from the municipal headquarters.

Between May 2011 and November 2016, the aforementioned foundation and its allies, through the “Water for Africa” program, implemented the project to provide access to drinking water and sanitary services in the municipalities of Bom Jesus and Funda, where eight thousand and five hundred people they now have access to clean water and more than 15 thousand participated in training and awareness-raising activities, as well as more than 20 young people and women were empowered as key partners in the project.
