More than 20 emerging artists will show their talent at twelve facilities in Girona

Girona City Council has scheduled 23 proposals from emerging artists in the fourth edition of cycle Close that will be done from April 12 to July 5. The event returns to the usual spring and summer calendar and it is expected that in the autumn the new call will be called to present the proposals for the 2024 edition. The program includes several artistic disciplines such as music, performing arts o arts visuals and the public will be able to see it for free. The fourth edition of the A prop cycle will take place in twelve municipal facilities set barris from the city. In the call for this 2023, 240 proposals were received from emerging artists from the territory and a technical commission has chosen 23.

The fourth edition of the A prop cycle heats up engines in Girona. This year the emerging art exhibition can be seen at civic centers de l’Onyar, Ter, Sant Narcís, Pont Major, Pla de Palau, Can Gibert del Pla and Santa Eugènia, in the libraries by Antònia Adroher and Salvador Allende and at the Espai Jove Station. In total, fourteen musical performances, eight performing arts and one visual arts will be scheduled this year.

Within the field of performing arts, the cycle has scheduled performances of dance, theater, circ i poetry. In addition, it has been prioritized that the shows are mostly intended for one family audience. As for the visual arts exhibition, it is ‘Cartografia Espais Púb(l)ics’ by La Noia del Monyo. It is a project that starts from the research and cataloging of ‘graffiti’ with sexual and gender content in various cities.

The A prop cycle was launched in 2020, in the midst of a pandemic, as a pilot test within the Territorial Specialization and Competitiveness Project (PECT) of Girona’s cultural and creative industries. It is a project co-financed at 50% with European Feder funds. It is organized by Girona City Council and Girona Provincial Council.

The cycle offers a small-format cultural program with free proposals and open to all audiences. The idea is to bring culture closer to all the neighborhoods of the city of Girona and to do so based on proposals from emerging artists in the territory. In this way, a promotion window for new artists is also guaranteed.

During 2023 they have been received 240 proposals of people who wanted to show their creations in the cycle A prop de Girona. A technical commission specialized in each of the artistic disciplines has been in charge of choosing the 23 proposals that are included in the program of this fourth edition.

Looking ahead to the autumn, the council plans to open the call for artists who want to be part of the 2024 edition.
