More than 250 Guatemalan migrants are rescued in Veracruz, Mexico

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minex) reported that the Guatemalan consular network in Mexico is following up on the case of more than 250 Guatemalan migrants rescued in Veracruz, including a woman who gave birth during the operation.

As indicated, there are 128 migrants insured in the municipality of Yanga and 130 rescued in Córdoba, Veracruz, Mexico. Among the compatriots, it stands out that more than 25 unaccompanied minors were traveling.

GUATEMALAN GAVE BIRTH DURING THE OPERATION

The National Institute of Migration of Mexico (INM) reported that a Guatemalan woman gave birth on the bus with the support of other people traveling with her who cut the umbilical cord while they were assisted by the authorities.

“INM personnel with the support of Civil Protection transferred the lady along with her minor daughter and the newborn to the General Civil Hospital Yanga for prompt attention. The INM staff remained in the hospital to monitor the evolution of the state of health,” they reported.

In addition, they indicated that the bus driver was placed at the disposal of the corresponding authorities to establish responsibilities.

Meanwhile, Minex highlighted that consular officials are interviewing compatriots and providing them with assistance and protection, “especially the Guatemalan woman who has just given birth, to guarantee their well-being and that they receive adequate care.”
