Seven days after the rescue of migrants from the Mediterranean off the Libyan coast, the ship Humanity 1 of the German non-governmental organization SOS Humanity has arrived in the port of Bari. Caritas welcomes migrants

“We at Caritas are prepared to provide the people with food, clothing and everyday necessities. We are ready. We don’t yet know exactly what will be needed. We welcome the 261 people with open arms,” ​​said the Priest Franco Lanzolla, chaplain in Bari.

After a medical examination, the people should be distributed to other Italian regions. They are to be taken to Calabria, Piedmont and Lazium, among other places. Unaccompanied minors should remain in Puglia for the time being.

More migrants landed in Salerno

Three children under the age of one are said to be among the people rescued from the sea. The migrants were also tested for Covid-19 after arriving in Bari. Also on Sunday, another 248 migrants landed in the port of Salerno, south of Naples.
