More than 30,000 Near-Earth Asteroids Discovered: Could Earth Be a Danger?

by time news

Astronomers have discovered more than 30,000 asteroids known as Near-Earth Asteroids (NEAs). They have calculated and found the distance between the Sun and our planet. According to the European Space Agency (ESA), more than 30,000 asteroids have been discovered so far, which it says have mostly been discovered in the past 10 years.

About a third of the 1 million asteroids discovered so far in the Solar System have been NEAs. Most of these live in the asteroid belt between Jupiter and Mars. In 1801, Giuseppe Piasi discovered the first asteroid.

According to the European Space Agency, 30,039 near-Earth asteroids have been discovered in the Solar System. It is also said that the related investigation is ongoing.

He added, “As expected, the initial asteroids discovered were huge. With telescope technology we are discovering more at a much faster rate. Asteroids range in size from several feet to meters.
“Some of these asteroids are tens of thousands of meters in size.”

Telescopes designed to scan large swathes of the sky from the ground are discovering new asteroids every week. After an asteroid is discovered, research is done on it. It helps astronomers determine the asteroid’s size and trajectory.

Will these asteroids hit Earth?

Fortunately, the near-Earth asteroids discovered so far pose no danger. At least for the next hundred years it will not cause any harm. Even if some small asteroids hit our planet, they do not cause any damage.

According to the European Space Agency, several large asteroids larger than one kilometer have been discovered, although they do not pose a danger to us. Not dangerous for 100 years. However, projects such as NASA’s DART will help in the future, even if it is at risk. Although asteroids pose a threat to our planet, we have the technology to deflect them. So it is said that there is no impact.
