A total of 322 people were detained in France until Saturday night, according to the balance of the Ministry of the Interior, although the violence unleashed after the death of the young Nahel seemed to decrease.

Despite this forecast, incidents were recorded in the city of Paris and its periphery, as well as Marseille (south) and Lyon (east), the second and third largest cities in France, the scene of strong riots the day before.

In Marseille, a strong police unit, with elite reinforcements sent by the central government, arrested 56 people and dispersed a smaller group of young people than on Friday.

According to provisional figures from the ministry, 126 arrests took place in Paris and its periphery.

In the capital, the security forces shielded the Champs-Élysées, where calls that appeared on social networks called for concentration, according to an AFP journalist.

Along the avenue lined with luxury shops, small groups of young people dressed in black wandered under the watchful eye of the police.

In other places on the Parisian outskirts, where this unrest broke out over the death of the 17-year-old resident of Nanterre (west of the capital), there were no major incidents.

In Lyon, also hit hard by the violence on Friday, 21 people were arrested, according to the ministry’s balance sheet.
