The Minister of Labor, Gloria Inés Ramírez, revealed that she presented the new health scheme, which is scheduled to begin its transition phase on May 1.
This project will directly benefit more than 330 thousand teachers currently affiliated with the National Fund for Social Benefits of Teaching (Fomag). However, the impact extends even further, covering a total of 818 thousand Colombians when also including the families of the educators.
The Minister of Education, Aurora Vergara, stressed that this transition process will allow teachers and their families continuous access to health services. This new system will operate through the National Health Services Network, with 31 departmental coordinations to guarantee efficient care to all members.
The process of building this model, explained by the Minister of Labor, involved months of joint efforts, and its main focus is on the rights of the beneficiaries, not on commercial interests. Managed by Fiduprevisora, the aim is to ensure timely, complete and high-quality access to health services.

One of the outstanding characteristics of this new scheme is its preventive approach over the curative, as highlighted by Jhon Mauricio Marín, president of the trust. Furthermore, it is highlighted that this model has been designed in collaboration with the beneficiaries, which marks a significant change compared to previous systems.
Elimination of intermediaries and direct investment in the delivery of health services are key aspects of this model, which ensures an expanded network of health care providers. Guillermo Jaramillo, Minister of Health, emphasized the importance of allowing teachers to freely choose from a wide range of accredited hospitals and clinics throughout the country.
In addition, this new scheme integrates health and safety at work, ensuring that comprehensive care teams reach not only teachers’ homes, but also their workplaces. This responds to a express request of the Magisterium to guarantee complete attention.
Regarding financing, the Minister of Finance, Ricardo Bonilla, explained that the teachers’ regime will be financed directly by themselves, along with corresponding contributions from the State. This approach ensures the sustainability of the system and allows each teacher to contribute according to his or her ability.
