More than 500 people have been sentenced to death in Iran this year

It is reported that more than 500 death sentences have been imposed in Iran so far this year. This is the highest rate in the last five years. The government of Iran has given punishment to those who have committed various types of crimes. According to unofficial estimates, the number of people awaiting death penalty is expected to increase.

According to Norway-based Iran Human Rights, at least 504 people were sentenced to death in Iran in 2022.

After the death of Mahsa Amini, protests continue in Iran. By imposing the death penalty, the Iranian government tried to create fear in the public and distract people involved in the protests, Mahmoud said.
