KUALA LUMPUR: More than 500 Rohingya refugees have been released from a temporary detention center in Malaysia. They escaped from the Sungai Bakap Immigration Detention Depot in Nibong Tebal, northwest of Penang, Malaysia. Pyongyang police chief Shuhaili Mohammed Zain said six people, including two women and children, had been killed in the escape. Of the 528 Rohingyas who escaped, 362 were captured, Malaysian officials said. The depot held a total of 664 Rohingya refugees.

The military occupation of Myanmar begins in August 2017. Following this, the people of Myanmar faced severe persecution. The UN has described Rohingya refugees as the world’s most persecuted minority.
