The deputies of the Electoral Reforms Commission learned about the progress of the implementation of the special law and other provisions approved in the Assembly, which will allow compatriots to participate, for the first time, in the elections in El Salvador.

The Electoral Reforms Commission received the Vice Minister of Diaspora and Human Mobility, Cindy Portal, and the president of the National Registry of Natural Persons (RNPN), Fernando Velasco, to present the progress obtained with the implementation of the regulations and with the entry in force of different provisions approved by the Legislative Body that seek to expand and improve consular services.

Portal assured that, currently, the 28 consulates work with extended hours so that Salvadorans can attend to process birth certificate certifications, at no cost.

The National Registry of Natural Persons (RNPN) has also played a leading role in the process for Salvadorans abroad to obtain the documents that will allow them to exercise their right to decide who will be their representatives.

The president of the institution, Fernando Velasco, explained that the entity’s work is to send the data to the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) so that the electoral registry of Salvadorans who reside outside the country can be prepared.

“We are making an extra effort with the Directorate of Immigration and Immigration to bring the service of issuing this document (DUI) even closer, through the embassies,” Velasco mentioned.

The official thanked the deputies for all the support they have provided to expedite the issuance of the DUI in person or through the postal service so that the applicant receives it at their place of residence.

The deadline for Salvadorans abroad to obtain, renew or update their identity document is next November 5. Velasco invited compatriots to carry out the procedures in a timely manner so that they are included in the electoral registry abroad.
