More of 8,000 pharmacies have connected to FarmaHelp, the Collegiate Pharmaceutical Organization tool that allows community pharmacists to contact pharmacies in their area when a patient needs a medication and due to urgency or supply incidents does not have it. In the last two months, 2,400 new pharmacies have joined FarmaHelp, the pharmacists’ tool that is free and respects the privacy of the pharmacy and patients. One more example of the digitization of pharmacies that is making it possible to locate more than 5,000 medicines each month.
Currently, each request for a medicine – 29,000 only last March – is answered in practically all cases and solved, when the drug is found, in 19.8% of them. A high percentage if one takes into account that many times these drugs have significant supply problems, with few units available in the pharmacy network that FarmaHelp locates and makes available to patients to continue your treatments.
Jesús Aguilar, president of the General Council of Pharmacists, highlights the growth of the tool on the pillars of “innovation and solidarity, since more pharmacies from all the provinces of Spain participate every day with the sole purpose of helping patients find their medicine and thus guarantee the continuity of the treatments and their success“. In addition, Aguilar recalled that for pharmacists “guaranteeing access to medication is an inalienable premise to which digital solutions such as FarmaHelp help us”.
This tool allows when a patient needs a medicine – and cannot wait for it to be sent by the distribution company or is experiencing supply incidents – their pharmacy can make a query to the surrounding ones and find out their availability.
An instant request that can be responded to by other pharmacies on a voluntary basis and that, if the medication is available, offers the patient a solution facilitating access to their treatment. In addition, FarmaHelp is a tool for instant messaging which also allows the connection between the Official Colleges of Pharmacists and pharmacies to send urgent notices and notifications.
