The security device that will ensure security during the next general elections on July 23 will be made up of a total of 90,282 members of the State Security Forces and Bodies.
There are 8,709 less than the 98,991 troops that were deployed in the regional and municipal elections last May, in what was the largest security device in history for elections in Spain.
As reported by the Ministry of the Interior, the operation for the general elections will be made up of 28,792 national police officers (to which must be added 99 agents from the unit attached to the Generalitat Valenciana) and 41,054 civil guards.
In addition, in the territories under its jurisdiction, the Mossos d’Esquadra will deploy 4,055 agents, the Ertzaintza 1,217, the Navarre Foral Police 23 and the Canary Islands Police another 67. The 14,768 agents from different Municipal Police forces complete the device.
In the breakdown by autonomous communities, Andalusia is the one with the largest number of agents, specifically, 18,636 troops; followed by Madrid (10,775), Catalonia (9,108) and the Valencian Community (9,083).
The Secretary of State for Security, Rafael Pérez, has signed the instruction for the coordination and operational action of the different security forces, as well as the protection measures for the electoral system, whose infrastructures will be considered ‘critical’ and already have the deployment of necessary security.
In addition, an extraordinary cybersecurity device has been established, coordinated by the Cybersecurity Coordination Office of the Ministry of the Interior, and in which specialized cybercrime units and the leading national computer emergency response teams will participate.
