More than a thousand fines were issued to drivers after the return to school in Mexico City

During the first day of the Back to School Operation implemented by the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) 1,513 drivers were ticketed by traffic officers.

Staff from the Undersecretariat of Traffic Control were in charge of streamlining vehicular traffic from the early hours of last Monday, August 26, in the various school zones of the 16 municipalities of CDMX, due to the return to activities of thousands of basic education students.

The most common fine committed by drivers was failure to pay a parking meter or overdue parking time with 308 infractions, followed by failure to pay parking fees at parking meters with 242 fines.

Other violations of the Traffic Regulations for which fines were imposed were not wearing a helmet on motorcycles with 147 fines imposed, 115 for parking in a prohibited place, 78 for parking outside the parking meter spaces, 68 for exceeding the parking meter payment time, 65 for parking in the bike lane, 56 for not carrying a driver’s license, 50 for parking on the sidewalk, 43 for not having license plates and 341 for other violations.

13,814 elements from sectors, groups, the School Security Unit (USE), Auxiliary Police, Banking and Industrial Police and the Undersecretariat of Traffic Control are participating in the Back to School operation in order to safeguard the safety of students, teachers and parents during the days of the start of the new school year.
