Kabul: More than 1,000 of the 14,000 prisoners in Afghanistan are women. The media reported that the prison department of Afghanistan informed that crimes have been registered against all those detained.

Director of Prison Department Muhammad Yusuf Mistari said that there are currently 14,000 prisoners, of which more than 1,000 are women. No political person has been imprisoned. 15,000 cases have been investigated and released. The prisoners are accused of murder, drug trafficking, theft and other crimes. “We are investigating thousands of cases, 15,000 have been released, about 3,000 prisoners will be released soon, and our jails have the capacity to house 20,000 prisoners,” said Mohammad Yusuf Mistari, head of the Directorate of Prisons.

Some women inmates of Pul-e-Charkhi Jail have called on the Taliban to immediately and transparently investigate their cases. Legal expert Suban Ullah Misbah said that all prisoners have rights and their investigation and trial should be legal and transparent.

And that discrimination and violence against women cannot be ignored. The EU’s special representative in Afghanistan, Thomas Niklasen, said that they are not in favor of isolating Afghanistan, but recognizing the Taliban regime cannot be seen as the right decision.
