At a meeting of the Council of Ministers on July 17, funds in the amount of BGN 23,020,000 were approved for transfer to the “Scientific Research” Fund within the framework of three main project competitions related to the funding of fundamental scientific research, with the funding of fundamental scientific research of young scientists and postdoctoral fellows, and for funding projects for bilateral scientific and technical cooperation. This is what the Acting Minister of Education and Science, Prof. Galin Tsokov, said today in response to a parliamentary question by the People’s Representative Andrey Chorbanov about the funds for the competitions of the Scientific Research Fund for 2024.

Two days before that – on July 15, I had a meeting with the management of the Scientific Research Fund and we discussed the problem you raised and I received their assurances that if on July 17 the government votes for these transfer funds, there will be no problems regarding of the organization of the competition session so that the best projects can be evaluated and financed in the fall of this year, Minister Tsokov explained to Andrey Chorbanov.

With the allocated funds, more than 100 scientific projects will be financed on a competitive basis, writes BTA

By providing the funds, sustainability is guaranteed in the activities of the fund, which is the only administrative structure in Bulgaria that organizes competitions for fundamental scientific research.

The aim is thus to ensure a high level of scientific research in Bulgaria and a dignified place for scientists in Bulgarian society and in the European research space, the press service of the Council of Ministers explained at the time.
