Worldwide, Covid-19 deaths have passed the five million mark. This was the result of a Reuters count based on official data. The delta variant caused a surge in deaths, especially among unvaccinated people. More than half of the world’s population has not yet received a dose of a vaccine.
According to Reuters analysis, it took almost a year for the number of Covid-19 deaths to reach 2.5 million. The next 2.5 million deaths, on the other hand, were recorded in just 236 days.
In Germany, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported 8,517 new positive tests. That is 1,306 more than on Saturday a week ago. The seven-day incidence rose slightly to 64.4 from 64.3 the previous day. 66 other people died in connection with the virus. This increased the number of reported deaths to 93,777 within 24 hours. In total, more than 4.2 million corona tests have so far been positive in Germany.
