Geneva: The United Nations says more than 300,000 civilians have been killed in 10 years of Syrian conflict. Between March 1, 2011 and March 31, 2021, 3,06,887 civilians were killed in Syria, according to the UN Office of Human Rights. UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet said that this does not include soldiers killed in the conflict, insurgents, and those who died without access to basic human rights, such as food and clean water.

Some Arab leaders who had been in power for decades were ousted in the wake of the Arab Spring uprisings in Egypt, Tunisia, Yemen, Libya and Bahrain.

The Syrian conflict began in March 2011 with anti-government protests demanding democratic reforms. The Syrian conflict later turned into a civil war that claimed many lives and wreaked havoc.
