According to information BNSthis week, in the various military units of the country, the basic military training course was completed and more than 2,200 summer conscript soldiers took the oath.

More than 900 soldiers swore allegiance to Estonia at the 1st Infantry Brigade of the Estonian Division in Tapa and Jõhvi, the Defense Forces General Staff reported.

“Taking the oath is an important event in a soldier’s life. We swear to defend these lands, these people and our loved ones with arms, at the cost of our lives if necessary. The skills you acquired during the basic course are the basis for your future service. They will help you survive on the battlefield. Additional service will not be easy. As you complete the following courses, your responsibility will increase,” said Col. Tarmo Kundla, commander of the 1st Infantry Brigade.

In the military town of Taara, more than 400 soldiers from the 2nd Infantry Brigade completed the training course and took the oath. In addition, military personnel of the division, Cyber Command, Logistics Service, Special Operations Command, military police of the Guard Battalion and naval sailors completed a basic training course and took the oath.

At the end of the basic training course, soldiers take an exam that tests their theoretical knowledge and practical skills, such as choosing a firing position, camouflage, ranging, first aid and mine laying. Also, during the final forced march, physical endurance is tested – its length can be up to 50 kilometers.

“It must have been physically difficult for the soldier, because when the body is tired, you have to make a mental connection and push yourself forward. Thanks to this, self-confidence increases and the soldier realizes that he is capable of more than he thinks,” said Captain Oscar Kiwisiv, who is responsible for the basic training course in the logistics battalion.

By reciting the text of the military oath, military personnel promise to remain loyal to the Republic of Estonia and its constitutional order, to defend the country against the enemy and to abide by military discipline. Soldiers take the oath of office after completing basic training, the initial stage of training where they acquire individual skills and knowledge.
