The Electricity Board had issued a notification on October 6 last that all the users receiving subsidy of 100 units should link Aadhaar with their electricity connection.

No one took much notice of this at first. In this situation, in the circular issued by the Electricity Board last November, it was announced that every electricity connection holder must link Aadhaar.

As a result every user is interested in linking Aadhaar number with their electricity connection.

Many educated youths can easily link Aadhaar by going to the ‘website’ on their cell phones.

Other public go to computer center or electricity board office and connect Aadhaar with electricity connection.

For this, special camps are functioning in 2,811 electricity offices across Tamil Nadu which are functioning through the power board.

House renters and those who have 2 electricity connections in the same house were initially reluctant to link Aadhaar.

But no one should hesitate to link Aadhaar with electricity connection. Minister Senthil Balaji had made it clear that no matter how many electricity connections a person has, he will continue to get 100 units of free electricity.

After that many people showed interest in linking Aadhaar with electricity connection.

He said that 25 lakh links have been linked to Aadhaar through 2811 Division Office Special Camps and 70 lakh links have been linked online.

The deadline to link Aadhaar number with electricity connection was already given till December 31.

At this stage, more than 90 lakh people still need to link Aadhaar number with electricity connection number.

Therefore, it is expected that the period for this may be extended by another 15 days.

When Minister Senthil Balaji was asked about this, he said:-

There is time till 31st to link Aadhaar number with electricity connection. Now people are eagerly linking Aadhaar number.

After 2 days we are going to analyze and count how many people have connected. After that it will be brought to the attention of the Chief Minister and a decision will be taken regarding the extension of time.
