EThe singer and leader of La Banda Trapera del Río Morfi Grei has died at the age of 64. His family confirmed this through a statement, in which they thanked the shows of support and comfort, and asked for the utmost respect in some very difficult moments. Morfi Grei – stage name of Miguel Ángel Sánchez – from Melillawas the vocalist of this Catalan group, which became an icon of Spanish punk rock with a long career on stage.
The band, which was born in the Sant Ildefons neighborhood of Cornellà de Llobregat enjoyed great success at the beginning of the eighties, especially in working-class areas of the Barcelona metropolitan area. Besides, composed the first punk song in Catalan: ‘Ciutat podrida’.
