SÃO PAULO, SP (FOLHAPRESS) – Supporters of candidates for Ricardo Lewandowski’s seat on the Federal Supreme Court (STF) were tense with the criticism that Senator Sergio Moro (União Brasil) made of lawyer Cristiano Zanin, who defended Lula (PT) in the Operation Lava Jato and is considered one of the favorites to occupy the position.
They believe that Moro’s attacks on Zanin revive Lula’s memory of what they define as the persecution he suffered in court. And it reinforces even more the preference for the defender, already praised by the president publicly.
Moro would thus be reinforcing, in practice, the campaign for the lawyer to be appointed – even if he does not realize it.
Zanin was, during the Lava Jato years, one of the main counterpoints to Moro’s performance, and personified Lula’s resistance in prison. The more he was beaten by the former judge, therefore, the better positioned he would be for the nomination.
