For the month of February 2024 alone, this traffic showed a sharp increase of 19% to stand at 2,266,620 passengers, indicates ONDA in a press release, specifying that Mohammed V airport, representing 33% of overall traffic , welcomed 747,985 passengers, an increase of 12% compared to February 2023.
Likewise, most other airports recorded double-digit growth rates, including Marrakech-Menara (+26%), Agadir Al Massira (+26%), Tanger Ibn Batouta (+10%), Fès Sais (+ 12%), Rabat Salé (+36%), Nador El Aroui (+13%), Oujda Angads (+14%), etc., reports the same source, noting that this performance was mainly driven by international traffic which accounted for 91% of overall traffic.
Concerning international traffic, it experienced an increase of 20% compared to February 2023, standing at 2,066,494 passengers welcomed. This growth affected all geographic areas.
Thus, Europe, which represents 84% of total international traffic, recorded a double-digit increase (+20%). The other markets, the Middle East and the Far East, Africa, North America and the Maghreb countries grew by 25%, 22%, 12% and 19% respectively.
As for domestic traffic, it recorded growth of 8% compared to February 2023, amounting to 200,126 passengers. Thus, during the month of February, this traffic returned to growth, recording an increase of around 3% compared to February 2019.
Regarding airport movements, ONDA reports that the month of February 2024 recorded 16,252 flights departing and arriving at all airports in Morocco, which represents an increase of 12% compared to February. 2023. Mohammed V airport represented 36% of this traffic, followed by Marrakech Menara with 27% and Agadir Al Massira with 9%.
Freight traffic, for its part, increased by 35% during the month of February 2024, reaching 7,826 tonnes, compared to 5,799 tonnes in February 2023.
