The festival, considered the essential place to discover the gems of French-speaking films, presents this year a retrospective of emblematic Moroccan films, including the very first Moroccan feature film “Fils Maudit” by Mohamed Ousfour, “Le Grand Voyage” by Ismaël Ferroukhi, “Ali Zaoua, prince de la rue” by Nabil Ayouch, “Marock” by Leila Marrakchi and “Adam” by Maryam Touzani, according to the initiators of this event during a press conference dedicated to the presentation of the Festival, held at the Arab World Institute (IMA).
FFA d’Angoulême 2024 also offers, “as a world premiere”, the Moroccan feature films “Radia” by Khaoula Assebab Benomar and “La Damnée” by Abel Danan, as well as the documentary “De quelques évènements sans signification” by Mustapha Derkaoui, they specified.
And to emphasize that Morocco, “land of cinema and filming”, continues to distinguish itself by its capacity to inspire international cinematographic productions.
In total, more than sixty films will be presented during this 17th edition of the FFA, including ten in competition and fifteen in preview.
The jury of this festival has announced only 8 feature films out of the ten that will make up the competition, notably “En Tongs au pied de l’Himalaya” by John Wax (France), “Lads” by Julien Menanteau (France-Belgium), “Le Procès du chien” by Laetitia Dosch (Switzerland-France) and “Une vie rêvee” by Morgan Simon (France-Belgium).
They are all competing for the famous “Valois” which will be awarded by a jury chaired by the famous actress Kristin Scott Thomas, who will be accompanied in particular by the Moroccan director and screenwriter Maryam Touzani.
On the preview side, the event will see, in particular, the screening of “Everybody Loves Touda” screened by “Cannes Première”, by Moroccan director Nabil Ayouch, as well as the comedy “A l’Ancienne” by Hervé Mimran, or “Le Choix du pianiste”, directed by Jacques Otmezguine.
On the sidelines of the FFA, which promises a rich and varied program with tributes and exhibitions on the menu, a series of photos by Moroccan photographer and videographer Leila Alaoui (1982-2016) will be exhibited, in collaboration with the IMA.
Created in 2008 and dedicated to French-language cinema, the FFA is held in the city of Angoulême, in Charente in the South-West of France. Every year, at the end of the summer, it establishes itself as the unmissable event of the cultural season in France.
