Moroccan experience in the mining sector highlighted at the “Minerals of the Future Forum” in Riyadh

In parallel with this Forum, the minister took part in the work of the ninth consultative meeting of Arab ministers in charge of mineral resources, notes the press release.

This meeting was an opportunity to highlight the crucial role of the mining industry in the economic and social development of Arab countries and to discuss issues of common interest to strengthen consultation aimed at promoting sustainable development of the mining sector. in Arab countries, notes the same source, adding that this meeting also made it possible to discuss the official launch of the Arab Platform for Future Metals, developed by the Arab Organization for Industrial Development, Standardization and Mining.

The minister underlined, during this meeting, the need to have an Arab platform including mineral data from all Arab countries in order to monitor the mining industry, citing the importance of including data relating to the rehabilitation of old mines and quarries on this platform, due to their importance in achieving the sector’s sustainable development objectives.

Ms. Benali also emphasized the importance of the informal sector, artisanal and traditional mining, citing the Moroccan experience as a successful example, particularly through the cooperative model.

On the sidelines of this Forum, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development of Morocco and the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, aiming to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the mining field, in particular through the promotion of investment and the development of projects of common interest, recalls the same source.

The minister also held a meeting with the Assistant Secretary at the US Department of State for Energy Resources, Jeffrey Byatt, around several topics related to the energy transition, strategic minerals and opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two country.

The Future Minerals Forum, marked by the participation of His Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Minister of Energy, and Mr. Bandar Ben Ibrahim AlKhorayef, Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources of the Saudi Arabia, in addition to the presence of several industry players, represents an international platform bringing together decision-makers, representatives of international organizations, global businesses and foreign investors to discuss the future of minerals and investment in the mining industry.

Its third edition aimed to explore ways to develop minerals cooperation in the emerging region stretching from Africa to Central Asia, attracting direct investments across the entire mineral value chain.

This third edition also called on mineral-producing countries around the world, as well as customers and technology providers, to participate in dialogue and build strong partnerships to highlight the importance of minerals and their future role in the development of societies, particularly highlighting the theme of strategic and critical minerals due to their role in the energy transition and the achievement of sustainable development goals.
