Speaking at a press briefing with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, at the end of their talks following the 6th edition of the Russia-Arab World Cooperation Forum, Mr. Bourita stressed that these relations have developed considerably thanks to the visit of HM the King to Russia in 2002, which was crowned by the signing of the strategic partnership and the second visit of the Sovereign to Russia in 2016, during which a renewed strategic partnership was announced between the two countries in addition to the establishment of a new roadmap for bilateral relations.

And to explain that this renewed strategic partnership has given a strong boost to relations between the two countries and created positive and ambitious prospects for bilateral cooperation.

In this context, Mr. Bourita reported an advanced and regular political dialogue between Morocco and Russia, stressing that the bilateral joint commission will be held next year in Moscow, with the planned signing of a series of conventions that will undoubtedly contribute to the development of bilateral cooperation in many areas such as energy, mining, agriculture and fisheries.

And to note that his discussions with his Russian counterpart also provided an opportunity to examine several regional and international issues.

These talks, Mr. Bourita continued, also focused on the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, in addition to other subjects including the situation in Libya and the Sahel.

Regarding the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Mr. Bourita stressed Morocco’s permanent and constant position, based on clear principles and references that support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of UN member states, recourse to dialogue, adoption of the principle of good neighborliness and recourse to peaceful solutions within the framework of United Nations resolutions.
