Moroccan Sahara: Chad reiterates its “constant position in favor of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Morocco over its entire territory, including the Sahara region”

This position was reaffirmed in the Joint Communiqué signed today in Dakhla, following the meeting between the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration, Chadians Abroad and International Cooperation, Government Spokesman, Mr. Abderaman Koulamallah, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Mr. Nasser Bourita.

The same Joint Communiqué “reaffirmed Chad’s support for the Autonomy Plan under Moroccan sovereignty, presented by the Kingdom in 2007, as the only basis for a credible and realistic solution to resolve this regional dispute”, and “welcomed the efforts of the United Nations as an exclusive framework to achieve a realistic, practical and lasting solution to the dispute over the Sahara”.

During a press briefing held after the signing, Mr. Bourita welcomed this clear position, while welcoming Chad’s decision to open a Consulate General in Dakhla, that very day, August 14, 2024, which coincides with the celebration of the 45th anniversary of the recovery of Oued Eddahab.

It should be recalled that the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration, Chadians Abroad and International Cooperation, Government Spokesman, Mr. Abderaman Koulamallah, is on a visit to Morocco, during which he held consultations with his Moroccan counterpart Mr. Nasser Bourita and inaugurated the headquarters of the Consulate General of Chad in Dakhla.

The two ministers also signed several cooperation agreements.
