“There is no doubt that the position of France, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, marks a step forward of capital importance, establishing Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara,” Mr. Roudani said in a statement to MAP.

With this new position, France brings “increased legitimacy and additional weight to the discussion, thus providing new momentum to international efforts to resolve this artificial dispute definitively,” he said, noting that French support reinforces a growing international dynamic in favor of this cause.

This decision, explains the Moroccan expert and academic, is based on a careful analysis and an in-depth strategic assessment on the part of France, taking into account not only the legal and historical aspects of the case it is witnessing, but also the geopolitical and regional implications.

Mr. Roudani stressed that Paris is paving the way for “a reassessment of international policies concerning the Moroccan Sahara, encouraging other members of the international community to examine and possibly align their positions in favor of the territorial integrity of Morocco.”

The position of France, “a country which has sufficient historical perspective and knowledge of the issue, is a game-changer in this matter”, the geostrategy expert continues.

In a message addressed to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, it is recalled, the French President officially announced to the Sovereign that he “considers that the present and future of Western Sahara are part of Moroccan sovereignty.”

In this same message, the French Head of State assures His Majesty the King of “the inviolability of the French position on this national security issue for the Kingdom” and that his country “intends to act in accordance with this position at the national and international levels”.
