Moroccan Sahara: France’s position will not fail to impact the management of the issue at the Security Council (Loulichki)

by times news cr

“The French position serves as a reference for several French-speaking countries and will not fail, in my opinion, to impact the management of the issue of the Moroccan Sahara at the Security Council and its consideration by the European Union,” said Mr. Loulichki, who commented for MAP on the scope and implications of this position expressed by the French President, Emmanuel Macron, in a message addressed to His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

In this message, Mr. Macron officially announced to the Sovereign that he “considers that the present and future of Western Sahara are part of Moroccan sovereignty”, while assuring His Majesty the King of “the inviolability of the French position on this national security issue for the Kingdom” and that his country “intends to act in accordance with this position nationally and internationally”.

Through this position, which also welcomes Morocco’s efforts to resolve the Sahara issue, France also calls on “those who are blocking the process to cooperate with the United Nations,” observed the former ambassador and permanent representative of Morocco to the UN.

“France considers Morocco as a pole of stability, and intends to do everything to preserve this pole of economic influence and South-South cooperation,” Mr. Loulichki stressed.

This is a “well-considered” decision, “taken on by France and its authorities,” he said, affirming that it generates “dynamics” in the Security Council.

And to specify, in this regard, that the French position is “a sovereign decision first” which is “not directed against anyone”. This decision is intended to be “an invitation to the other parties to definitively settle this dispute so that we can free the energies of the Maghreb peoples and contribute to peace and stability in this region”, concluded Mr. Loulichki.
