Moroccan Sahara: Russia supports lasting solution based on Security Council resolutions (Lavrov)
Marrakech – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Wednesday in Marrakech that Russia supports a lasting solution based on UN Security Council resolutions to resolve the conflict over the Moroccan Sahara.
“We support the achievement of a lasting solution on the basis of the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council and we intend to continue our commitment to this line of principle aimed at progressing and reaching adequate decisions” on the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, Mr. Lavrov said, during a joint press briefing with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, following bilateral talks at the end of the 6th edition of the Russia-Arab World Cooperation Forum.
The head of Russian diplomacy also expressed the Russian Federation’s support for the mediation efforts of the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for the Sahara, Staffan de Mistura.
